MAJOR - US ARMY AIR FORCE - WORLD WAR 11
OXFORD -- JOHN Frederick WEBB, Jr., 83, of 119 Military Street, died Thursday, March 12, 1998 at home after a brief illness.

A native of Oxford, he was the son of JOHN Frederick WEBB and Sarah Gorham WEBB. He served for many years as secretary-treasurer of Oxford Credit Union, which was founded in 1937 by his father. He was a charter member of the Oxford Lions Club and a long-time member of Oxford United Methodist Church.

Mr. WEBB was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1935. During World War II he served as an officer in the 8th Air Force, stationed for 5 years in England.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Alan P. Swartz. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn Mewborn WEBB; one son, JOHN Frederick WEBB, III of Raleigh; two daughters, Kathryn Gorham WEBB of Oxford and Rebecca WEBB Henritze of Whittier; one brother, Henry Gorham WEBB of Washington, DC., and Hilton Head Island, SC.; and 4 grandchildren, Rachel Rebecca, Sarah Louise Henritze of Whittier, Suzanne Marie and Caroline Kathryn WEBB of Raleigh.

Mr. WEBB was predeceased by his brother, James Edwin WEBB, and two sisters, Olive WEBB Wharton and Edith WEBB Williams.
