Served under Capt. Perce Co., Illinois Militia during the Civil War. Muster -out Roll at Camp Butler, June 27, 1862.

Owner of the "Antelope" mine, Hermosa, New Mexico. Picture appears in the book, "A Thousand Arizona Mines" and was Justice of the Peace in Hermosa, NM.

Son of William Henry Herndon, Abraham Lincoln's friend, law partner and biographer.

On his paternal side his great grandfather, Edward Day, served in the Revolutionary War. On his maternal side, his great grandfather, Joel Maxcy served in the Revolutionary War as well.
