Mrs. Boone was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Mineral Wells, the daughter of Powell Blevins "Red" and Katie Mae Wilkins Choate and lived in Mineral Wells until 1953. She was the first born of eight children. She was the proud wife of Lester "Blackie" Boone, who preceded her in death May 25, 1978.
Bettye was proud of the fact she was the youngest waitress at the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. She was also a restaurant owner, executive housekeeper at the previous Holiday Inn until her retirement and then became a "gold-winning" grandmother. In 1979 she won the second-place award as the "Executive Housekeeper of the Year" out of a field of the top 100. After settling down from her gold-mining excursions she loved hand sewing with her late mother and two daughters, making little pillows and aprons. Later in life her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Shirley Ann Burt and husband, John, Alan Michael Boone, of Abilene, and Leslye Kaye Ferral, all of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dickie and Carolyn Choate, Oscar and Cindy Choate and and Walter and Shirley Choate, all of Mineral Wells; sisters and brother-in-law, Pat and Fred Storermer of Bedford, Texas, Nancy Bivins, of White Settlement, Texas, and Martha Martin of Burleson, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Choate.
