Elsie Flater Tate, 96, of Sterling, died Tuesday, May 3, at Sterling Regional MedCenter.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Tennant Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Christine Wolcott Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Tate was born April 25, 1898 in Austin, Ind. to John L. and Malinda Monroe. She received her schooling in Indiana before mov ing with her family to Ida Grove, Iowa in 1914. On June 28, 1916, she married Alfred Dudley Flater of Ida Grove. Mr. Flater died Oct. 11, 1953.
She married Fred A. Tate Oct. 15, 1954 and they made their home in Sterling. Mr. Tate died Sept. 7, 1978.
Mrs. Tate was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Wonder Group and Prayer Chain Group. She was also a 50-year member and past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Sterling Shrine No. 3 and 70-year member of the Maple Chapter of Eastern Star in Ida Grove. She is survived by granddaughter Linda S. Meisner of Sterling;
daughters-in-law Phyllis M. Flater of Sterling and Dorothy Ruppel of Aurora; step-daughters Maxine Coakley of Sterling and GerakIin Madsen of Coupeville, Wash. fivc great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, seven step- grandchildren, 12 step-great grand children and two step-great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Alfred Monroe "Skinny" Flater and Harl Maurice Flater; grandson Bruce Flater, grand-daughter Sheri Tasei and step grandson Gene Tate.
