Henry M. Watkins, 97, of Tucson, Ariz., a relative of area residents, died Saturday, July 10, 2010.

Born in Jasper, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha, and second wife, Emmie.

Survivors include his daughter, Florence Moore of Tucson; three sisters and one brother, all of the Lafayette area.

Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A son, Maxwell Watkins, also preceded him in death.
