Isadora H. McCullough was the eldest of eight children born to Dr. Patrick Henry McCullough and his wife Rachel Ward Thornburg. Her father was a physician who later in life served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. On November 3, 1868, Isadora married John W. Rider (1844-1903), a Union army veteran and son of Charles W. and Mary Callahan Rider. They lived in Huntington, Cabell Co., W.Va., where John worked in a pool hall and later as a hotel clerk. The couple had one child: Marguerite Florence (b. 1870). After her husband's death in 1903, Isadora lived with her daughter and her family.
