John Henry Singleton was born in Montgomery Co., NC in 1799. He married Elizabeth Burtz, (b. 13 July 1810 in Pickens, South Carolina) in 1830. Her parents were Levi Burtz, (b. 1785 in Burlington, NJ, and died in Forsyth, GA in 1850) and Sarah Barrett, (b. 1786 in South Carolina and died about 1850 in Forsyth, GA). According to various records, John Henry went by the name Henry. The family resided and farmed in Forsyth Co. GA by 1840. (1840-1870 Census). Their granddaughter, Messina Hall, is shown in their residence in 1870. Elizabeth died in 1870. Henry died on 18 March 1875 in Forsyth, Co. and is buried in an unmarked grave at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawson Co. (Arvene Atkinson) Among their children was Dorcas A. Singleton.
Dorcas A. Singleton was born in 1834. She married William Hall (b. 1830 in Alabama) in Forsyth County, GA on 16 June 1850. (Forsyth Co Marriages 1834-1860). They resided in Dawson Co, GA in 1860 where William farmed. (1860 Census). William died prior to 1870. A William P. Hall of Dawson Co, GA enlisted as a Private in the Confederate Army in August 1863, was captured in Virginia in May 1864 and died later that year. This is not confirmed as the husband of Dorcas, and precedes the birth of Florence. Dorcas is listed with her children Henry and Florence in the 1880 census for Chattooga Co. GA. She died prior to August 1884 when (John) Henry married Fannie Bradley in Bartow Co. GA. At that time, Florence moved in with them. (Info by David Leonard)
