John W. "Jack" Kappelman, 86, of Nampa, passed away at a Nampa hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, with his loving family at his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1515 8th St. S. in Nampa. A private inurnment will be at a later date at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Nampa. The family will greet loved ones and friends at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa - 466-3545 - on Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m.. John W. "Jack" Kappelman was born on April 22, 1924, in Naper, Neb., the son of Mabel (Walters) and Charles A. Kappelman. He was one of five children. He attended rural grade schools in Nebraska and South Dakota and graduated from Keya Paha High School in Springview, Neb., in 1942.

Following graduation he worked on several different farms in Nebraska. In 1943 he moved to Nampa to pursue the love of his life, Thelma Klas. They were married at St. Paul's Catholic Church on April 22, 1946, (his 22nd birthday). He held several jobs: PFE Shops, bowling alley, Valley Truck and Implement. He worked at the Amalgamated Sugar Company in Nampa for approximately 40 years.

During his years at the Sugar Factory he also farmed and he and Thelma raised 6 children on the farm on West Roosevelt. He retired in 1989 from the Sugar Factory. In his later years he took up golfing (never getting a hole in one) but he loved the sport. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, a volunteer at RSVP and the Nampa Senior Center where he put in many hours.

Jack is survived by his wife, Thelma (his bride of 64 years) in Nampa; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Judy (James) Dyer, Boise, ID; Dianne (Preston) Christensen, Eugene, OR; and Linda (Sid) Linck, Bend, OR; 3 sons and daughter-in-law, John Kappelman, Austin, TX; Jim (Zsofia) Kappelman, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Steve Kappelman, Meridian, ID; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and George and their wives; 2 sisters, Frances and Bertha and their husbands. His younger sister, Frances Hoffman, from Dallas, S. D., passed away 2 days prior to Jack's passing.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to MSTI of Nampa, 308 E. Hawaii Ave., Nampa, ID 83686, or the American Heart Association , 270 S. Orchard, Boise, ID 83705.
