HAWTHORN STEPHENS was the third of THOMAS GEORGE and MARY [GOODWIN] STEPHENS' children and he was born on 27 April 1868 at 20 Cookson Street in Southeast Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. He suffered from severe burns at an early age and became a glass cutter; he never married. After his father died in 1893, he resided with his mother, MARY STEPHENS. In the 1911 Census he and his mother were listed at 25 Elford Grove near Roundhay Road in North Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. After his mother died in 1921, he obtained a place of his own and died on 3 March 1942 at St. James Hospital in Leeds.
