FRANCIS "Frank" STEPHENS was born in Bradwell, Buckingham-shire, England on 12 October 1880, the sixth child of ten children born to THOMAS GEORGE STEPHENS and MARY GOODWIN. He was a Veteran of the Boer War with the British Army in South Africa for which he was awarded the Queen's Medal and gold clasp with four bars for his service.

FRANCIS "FRANK" STEPHENS was married to FLORENCE EVELYN WALKER on 6 July 1904 in the Church of St. Aidan in Leeds, Yorkshire, England and they became the parents of three sons"

1. FRANCIS HERBERT STEPHENS, born in March 1905 Bristol, Somerset, England; died a year later there.

2. RONALD FRANCIS STEPHENS, born on 4 January 1906 at 4 Collins Street, Avon Mouth in Bristol, Somerset, England.

3. LESLIE HAROLD STEPHENS, born on 26 December 1909 at 25 Elford Grove, Upper Banstead, Roundhay Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.

On 12 March 1911 FRANK STEPHENS made a decision to emigrate from England to a warmer and drier climate to improve the health of his wife. On 12 March 1911, he and his family departed from Leeds, Yorkshire and on 15 March took the Cunnard ship SS Campania to New York where they were processed on Ellis Island. After being cleared there they took the train west to Los Angeles, California where they arrived in early April 1911 and settled in the Echo Park area. FRANK STEPHENS became a foreman at the Fulton Shipbuilding Company in San Pedro, California and he died there on 13 December 1918 when he fell down the hatchway of an uncompleted ship.
