Gertrude was the second wife of John Russell, and the mother of his children. They married in 1737.
She was the sister of the 1st Marquess of Stafford, the Countess of Waldegrave and the Countess of Upper Ossory.
Gertrude's daughter Caroline married the 4th Duke of Marlborough. Her son Francis, Marquess of Tavistock, died before his father but was the father of three sons to continue the line.
Among her grandchildren are the 5th and 6th Duke of Bedford, the 5th Duke of Marlborough, the 1st Baron Churchill of Whichwood, the Viscountess Clifden of Gowran and the Countess of Shaftesbury.
She is buried in the Bedford Chapel of the parish Church of St. Michael, Chenies.
