A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Verbis Lafleur at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Rite of committal will follow at the Bellevue Memorial Park cemetery. The Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass. Readers will be Christy Bernard and Kimberly Fontenot. Gift bearers will be Olivia Lafleur and Danielle Lafleur. Musical selections will be performed by Richard Sellers accompanied by Molly Fontenot and Alece Lafleur. Adam Bernard will be the altar server.

Verbis Lafleur, age 73, who was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Port Barre, died on Thursday, September 3, 2015.

Verbis was a graduate of AIC and then completed trade school as an electrician. He owned and operated Verbis Lafleur Electrical Service for 39 years until his retirement in January 2012. When not hard at work, Verbis truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and canning. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Louisiana Operation Game Thief. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kathryn Williams Lafleur; sons, Paul Verbis Lafleur and wife Alece of Ragley, LA and Patrick Louis Lafleur of Gothenburg, NE; brothers, Bobby Lafleur and wife Priscilla of Opelousas, LA and Richard Lafleur and wife Carrol of Opelousas, LA; sister, Marie Theresa Lafleur Mumme of Metairie, La; grandchildren, Michael Fontenot, Molly Fontenot, Zack Fontenot, Cody Lafleur, Trevor Lafleur, Seth Lafleur, Olivia Lafleur, Danielle Lafleur and Laine Lafleur.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Alison Faith Lafleur Fontenot; his parents, Shelton and Lucette Bernard Lafleur; brothers, Roger Lafleur and Earl Lafleur.

Pallbearers will be Larry Berger, Ronnie Williams, Michael Fontenot, Joey Bernard, Chad Lafleur, Cody Lafleur, Zack Fontenot, and Gary Fontenot. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lafleur, Richard Lafleur, Berchman Sylvester, Trevor Lafleur, Seth Lafleur, and Laine Lafleur.

Visitation will be held in the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary led by Deacon Jerome Collins. On Monday visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
