Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 30, 1998, in Opelousas for Mr. Joseph Earl Lafleur of Opelousas, who died Wednesday, January 28. An 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial
will be conducted in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on West Landry Street. Interment will
take place in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Rev. David Broussard will conduct the services and celebrate the Mass with Rev. Wilfred
Sylvester.

Earl, a native and life long resident of Opelousas, was born on March 1, 1944. He attended
elementary, high school and trade school in Opelousas, graduating from the Academy of the
Immaculate Conception and T. H. Harris Vocational and Technical School. Mr. Lafleur was
employed with Shell Oil Company for 24 years, Verbis Lafleur Electrical in Opelousas for
several years and worked for Guaranty Glass Company in Opelousas at the time of his death.

Earl devoted his entire life to his family and friends. Always willing and ready to give a
helping hand, he loved to spend time with people. His wonderful smile and warm personality
will be sadly missed by all. An avid hunter, Earl enjoyed spending time in the beautiful
wooded areas around Acadiana. His other interests included cooking, woodworking and collecting black iron pots. Mr. Lafleur was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.

Mr. Lafleur is survived by his wife, the former Brenda McSpadden of Opelousas; a son, Kurt
Lafleur and his wife, Jackie, of Opelousas; a daughter, Pamela Lafleur Hoffpauir and her
husband, Jason, of Houma; his father, Shelton Lafleur of Opelousas; his father-in-law, Eugene
McSpadden of Opelousas; three brothers, Robert Lafleur, Verbis Lafleur and Richard Lafleur,
all of Opelousas; a sister, Marie (Mrs. Jay) Mumme of New Orleans; and a host of nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucette Bernard Lafleur; his mother-in-law, Isola A.
McSpadden; and a brother, Roger Lafleur.
