John Bischoff, 74, resident of Chase County for 20 years, was buried Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery south of Wauneta. Funeral services were held from the church of which the deceased was a charter member, Rev. A. F. Wegener of Culbertson officiating. Rev. Wendling, pastor of St. Paul's church, officiated at the rites at the grave.

Mr. Bischoff's death at his home in Culbertson, Thursday of last week, followed two years of ill health. He had been a resident of Culbertson since he retired from farming activities in 1928. Prior to that time, he lived for 20 years in the Enders vicinity, where his family of five sons and four daughters grew to manhood and womanhood.

Pall bearers were: Henry Haarberg, Dick Haarberg, Fred C. Haarberg, John Haarberg, John Keiser, Henry Fortkamp. Internment was di-director by the C. E. Johnston mortuary.

John Bischoff was born on June 27, 1864, in Nenndorf, Germany, and baptized in the name of the Triune God on Aug. 14 of the same year in Vilsen. On April 14, 1878, he renewed his baptismal covenant in the rite of confirmation in Buecken, Germany.

There, in the land of his birth, he was also joined in holy matrimony with Wilhelmina Kastens, Nov. 25, in the year 1887. This union was blessed with nine children, five sons and four daughters, all of them still living.

In the year 1893 they came to America, settling at Elk Creek, Johnson county, Nebraska. In 1901, they moved to Athol, Kan., and in 1908 to Enders, Chase county, Nebraska.

He was one of the charter members of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Wauneta. In 1928 he retired and moved to Culbertson, where he resided until the time of his death.

It was about two years ago that his health began to fail noticeably, and it was not long thereafter it became known he was afflicted with cancer. The Lord placed a heavy cross upon him, which he suffered with meekness and patience as a true disciple of Christ. On the morning of June 1, the Lord delivered him from all earthly sufferings, calling him to Himself in heaven at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 5 days.

He is survived by his sorrowing wife, nine children, Henry of Wauneta; Minnie Denker, of Culbertson; William, of Wauneta; Fred, of Loveland, Colo.; John, of Enders; Bertha Denker, of Wauneta; Carl, of Enders; Sophia Nordhausen, of Wauneta; and Ella Winkelmann, of Benkelman; also 23 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Note: Although the obituary says he was a resident of Chase County, his farmhouse was in Dundy County.
